Why we run vibeathons instead of hackathons

A normal hackathon in 2025 has a quiet tax on every team: half the weekend goes to fighting free-tier rate limits, wiring up keys, and arguing with tooling that was never meant for a deadline.

We got rid of the tax. At a vibeathon, every participant gets premium access to frontier models and coding agents for the duration. Claude, GPT-class models, proper agent tooling. The best available leverage, handed out at the door.

What changes

The floor rises. A two-person team with good instincts ships what used to take a five-person team a month. The projects stop looking like demos and start looking like products.

The judging changes too. When everyone has the same firepower, you can't win on plumbing. You win on taste: what you chose to build, how you scoped it, whether the demo makes someone lean in.

What doesn't change

Deadlines are still deadlines. Demos still break at the worst moment. The team that practised their pitch still beats the team that didn't. AI compresses the boring parts; it doesn't do the judgment for you.

That gap between people who use the tools and people who fear them is the entire reason this community exists.
